Where to look for Fossils at Lothbeg?

(Collecting on the foreshore) - 2003

Most of the fossiliferious Jurassic beds require some scouring to have any success in finding fossils. Look for areas of blue (Kimmeridge) clay. These beds are similar to those of Helmsdale but with the exception that the Boulder Beds are missing here. Also look and examine the areas of shingle. Further round the corner, examine the foreshore carefully, a white-yellow like sandstone rock can be seen exposed packed with tiny plant remains, in this area whole plants and leafs can be found.
